Des Moines, Iowa
Des Moines International Airport is the largest airport in Iowa, with annual enplanements over 963,000 passengers. DSM also has a military presence with the Iowa National Guard operating F-16 aircraft out of the airport. While changes in the aviation industry and local military unit missions have reduced the airport’s noise exposure contours, aircraft noise complaints continued. Encroaching development around the airport has been a concern as well. To address these issues, Coffman Associates prepared two Part 150 studies for DSM in 1992 and 2007, resulting in several measures to reduce noise and improve relations between the airport and nearby residents and business owners.
