Wilmington International Airport

Wilmington, North Carolina

Wilmington International Airport (ILM) has experienced a tremendous increase in enplanement numbers during the past several years. As a small hub airport in a rapidly growing community, the airport enplaned more than 450,000 passengers for the first time in 2022. To accommodate forecast growth, ILM is undertaking an aggressive five-year capital plan to improve commercial and general aviation facilities. As part of this five-year plan, ILM selected Coffman Associates to provide on-call airport planning services. In 2023, Coffman Associates completed National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documentation for the following projects:  CIL Ramp; CIL Landside Development; Proposed Hotel; and Runway 6-24 Overlay. NEPA documentation is currently underway for the following projects and is expected to be completed in 2024: Terminal Phase 5 and Taxiway B Supplemental Environmental Assessment; North Side General Aviation Improvements (Categorical Exclusion); East Side General Aviation Improvements (Categorical Exclusion); and other non-aeronautical landside developments. Additionally, work has commenced on a Part 150 Noise Compatibility Study. This study will take 16-20 months to complete and includes preparation of two documents:  the Noise Exposure Maps and the Noise Compatibility Program.
